Approval

Scripture Reading John 3:16

I. The power of people in a person’s life. (1 Sam. 10:20-27)

   A. Saul’s gifts were overcome by his insecurities.

   B. The people’s rejection of Saul drove him to people please.

   C. Saul cared more about the people’s opinion than God’s.

       (1 Sam. 15:24)

*The disease to please is a form of addiction.

II. Three problems people pleasers face

   A. Obsession over what others think.

   B. Overly sensitive to criticism.

   C. Avoid conflicts by saying yes. (Proverbs 29:25)

*People pleasing is idolatry. (John 12:42-43)

III. God’s approval sets people free from the disease to please.

Take Away:

It’s impossible to please everyone, so it’s important to know you’re already pleasing to the only One who counts.
